This thesis examines cybersecurity challenges within the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) as it transitions to electronic health records. It highlights major vulnerabilities such as rapid adoption of new technologies, dependence on outdated systems, and operational pressures that often sideline cybersecurity. These weaknesses have led to incidents that negatively impact patient care and resource efficiency.
While progress has been made, the study identifies ongoing gaps and stresses the need for better staff training and awareness. It recommends adopting a zero-trust security model, investing in workforce development, and fostering a strong cybersecurity culture. Ultimately, the paper calls for proactive, collaborative cybersecurity measures to protect patient data, maintain trust, and improve healthcare delivery.
