Our History

LIGS University has a long history that proves that it has found its place in the education of mainly adult-employed students from all over the world whom it is primarily focused on. Among its graduates are important individuals from various parts of the world, such as successful managers, but also, for example, ministers and other figures. Among the most significant milestones since LIGS University was founded in 2004 (first within the Czech Republic, EU, where it operated as an educational institution until its relocation to the USA in 2011) are:

In 2004 LIGS University was founded (in the Czech Republic, EU), and the design and pilot of the Executive MBA program were launched and later finished in 2006 when it began enrolling the first batch of students. During this year, the university acquired the American Association for Higher Education and Accreditation (AAHEA) accreditation.

In 2011 LIGS University, LLC was established in Hawaii, US. In addition, the Scientific Council was established as an independent advisory body for the university. The Online BBA and MBA programs were also launched this year, and three years later, the Interactive Online DBA and Ph.D. programs welcomed their first students. However, the BBA program was cancelled in 2017 due to the increased focus on graduate and doctoral degree programs.

Between the years 2015 and 2017, LIGS University achieved many great triumphs. For one, the President of LIGS University, Dr. Pavel Makovsky, earned the “Educational Manager of the Year” award in the Czech Republic. LIGS university has also made great strides regarding accreditation, earning accreditation from the Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges and Universities (ASIC).

Between 2020 and 2022, many changes were made in the running of LIGS university. Many of these changes could be connected to the pandemic of Covid-19, such as new Covid scholarships, the realisation of online science and management conferences, the revamp of the university website, and the establishment of the online LIRN library, online video library, and the new position of librarian. In addition, a new program that would make part of the school fees available to charity was also established. Lastly, the process of student admission was also changed and refined.

In addition, there were several changes on the organisational level

First, the procedures and policies of LIGS University were reviewed and re-evaluated. These, for example, included:

  • Complaint and Grievance Policy
  • Disciplinary Code
  • Code of Ethics
  • Policy on Equity and Inclusion
  • Scholarship Policy
  • Grading Policy
  • Credit Hours Policy
  • Credit Transfer Policy
  • Teach Out Policy
  • Succession Plan

After that, the Board of Trustees was transformed into a new role as an independent Advisory Board with a substantial role in the control and direction of LIGS University. In connection with this, a new organisational structure was accepted on 2.6.2022. During this time, new administrative bodies were created to strengthen the structure of LIGS university, such as the Provost and Vice Provost, the Alumni Council, the Student Council, and The Faculty Senate.

Lastly, LIGS University leadership decided to pursue acquiring an accreditation recognized by the United States Department of Education. This is an ongoing process approved by the Board of Trustees.
