Recently, LIGS University has acquired 3 ISO certifications. You might be wondering, what this ISO is?
Well, ISO is the International Organization for Standardization. The keen among you might wonder why it is abbreviated ISO instead of IOS – this stems from the need of different acronyms for different languages (OIN for French for example). With this in mind, the founders decided for ISO, derived from the Greek word isos, which means equal.
The conception of ISO can be traced to 1946 when delegates from 25 countries met and decided to create a new international organization ‘to facilitate the international coordination and unification of industrial standards’. On the 23rd of February, 1947, the new organization, ISO, officially began operations.
At this point, you might be wondering about the relevancy of ISO. Is this organization trustworthy? Do the certifications mean anything?
“ISO certifications are one of the most sought after at this moment, and the reason for this is simple – the certification proves that our programs and services reflect excellence”, says Marek Kittner, the Financial Director of LIGS University.
What makes ISO certifications so sought after? One of the reasons is the fact that ISO is an independent, non-governmental international organization with 163 member countries. It does not decide on its own when to develop a new standard but responds to requests from the industry and consumers.

The standards are developed by groups of experts from all over the world. These experts negotiate all aspects of the standard, including its scope, key definitions, and content.
This means that the certifications are unbiased, they target real industry and consumer issues, and they reflect a wealth of international experience and knowledge.
The ISO International Standards ensure that products and services are safe, reliable and of good quality. This gives confidence to the consumers, knowing that the products or services offered are accompanied by the aforementioned adjectives.
As was mentioned at the start, LIGS University currently holds 3 ISO certifications.
ISO/IEC 27001 – This certification commends the security of assets such as financial information, intellectual property, employee details or information entrusted to us by third parties.
